“Today and every day, we will run for you, Gino”, ends the note from the Bahrain team.
Mader’s fatal accident occurred at kilometer 197 of the queen stage of the Tour of Switzerland, following the last port of the stage that ended in Le Punt, during the dangerous descent of Albulapass. The Swiss cyclist fell down a ravine and was left unconscious on the water.
“A high finish might have been perfectly possible, it was not a good decision to make us finish following a dangerous descent. As cyclists, we have to think regarding the risks we take going down the mountains”, commented the Belgian Remco Evenepoel.
