Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s Exclusive Negotiating Rights to Buy Manchester United for Over $6 Billion

Informed sources said today, Thursday, that Manchester United is considering granting a group led by Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani exclusive negotiating rights to buy the club competing in the English Premier League for more than six billion dollars.
A source added that members of the Glazer family, who hold minority stakes in the club but control it thanks to a dual class share structure, would sell their stake as part of the proposed deal.
The source added that the Qatari offer currently has a preference for the Glazer family compared to the offer of British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, which will allow its members to retain some interests in the club.
Manchester United is seen as one of the most valuable sporting assets. If sold for $6 billion, it would become one of the biggest sports deals ever, following in the footsteps of the NFL’s Washington Commanders, which sold this year.
The club’s shares jumped regarding 15 percent following the report, before falling to make some gains.
During the agreed exclusivity period, Manchester United will not be able to negotiate with any party other than Sheikh Jassim. The length of the period was not specified. The sources said that the situation has not been resolved yet, and that a new offer from Ratcliffe may prevent exclusive negotiations with Sheikh Jassim.
The sources requested anonymity for the confidentiality of the matter. Representatives of Manchester United and Sheikh Jassim might not be reached for comment.
