The facts date back to Tuesday May 23, when Wendy went to the Batopin de la Nederstraat in Aundenarde. In her purse were several envelopes, containing a total of 3,000 euros. She was going to deposit this money in the bank, on behalf of her employer.
“When I entered, someone was already at the third machine. A man, who, it seemed, was withdrawing money, ”explains Wendy to our colleagues. “I myself chose the second machine, put in the bank card and took out the envelopes with money. But just when I was regarding to put the tickets in the slot, this man pushed me and grabbed the money, ”says the 30-year-old once more.
In shock, Wendy lets out a cry. “I screamed so loud that people outside the office might hear me too. And all the while, I had to work hard to keep the door closed so he wouldn’t know how to get away. But in the end, he was able to escape, ”says the young woman. The thief then tried to jump on his bike, but there, once more, Wendy stops him. “I was able to stop him and the tickets flew. Then he tried to steal my purse, until I started hitting him with it. Then he left on foot,” continues Wendy.
A female witness immediately called the police. The author was arrested shortly therefollowing.

But the next day, it’s a new shock for Wendy. “I was sitting with a friend on the terrace of a restaurant business and suddenly I see this thief casually crossing the square, with a can of beer in his hand. I might not believe my eyes. I was sure it was him, I won’t forget his face anytime soon,” says the Belgian.
But Wendy does not stop there and decides to go see the man. “I asked him if he thought it was normal, on such a day following a robbery, to walk around without embarrassment”, explains Wendy. “He recognized me right away. He was shocked and immediately began apologizing profusely. He told me that he was suffering from drug addiction, ”explains the young woman once more.
Wendy does not understand how it is possible that this man is free the day following the events: “How the hell is it possible that this man is free once more? It’s not normal for me, as a victim, to come across my attacker the day following the incident, is it? “, she laments.
According to the prosecution, the thief was not arrested pending trial because he has a clean criminal record and expressed remorse. He would therefore not represent an imminent danger.
