Abu Dhabi University’s “Design of Bridges” Competition: Building Earthquake-Resistant Bridges for a Sustainable Future

ABU DHABI, 15th June, 2019 (WAM) — The College of Engineering at Abu Dhabi University – Al Ain Campus concluded the activities of its second edition of the “Design of Bridges” competition, which it organized for school students under the slogan “Building earthquake-resistant bridges for a sustainable future”, coinciding with the Year of Sustainability in the country. And in line with the university’s strategy to promote community participation.

More than 120 students from private and public schools in the country participated in the competition, where they had the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge in building sustainable bridges.

The participating teams presented their work to the members of the jury, explaining the basic concept that was adopted to design earthquake-resistant bridges, mentioning their most prominent characteristics and advantages, and highlighting the importance of building such bridges for a safer and more secure future.

Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Zoubi, Coordinator of the College of Engineering at Abu Dhabi University, confirmed that the college was able, by hosting this competition, to provide students with a unique opportunity to get acquainted with university life, in addition to highlighting the talents and great potentials of the next generation of engineers.

At the end of the competition, the jury announced the names of the winning teams. The first place was won by the “Al Ataa School” team, and the “Al Ain Juniors School” team won the second place, while the third place went to “Al Israa Private School”.
