The search for other survivors of the serious boat accident off Greece continued on Thursday night without success. “Neither survivors nor other victims were discovered during the night,” said a spokesman for the Greek coast guard on state radio on Thursday morning. According to rescued migrants, more than 700 people might have been on board the sunk fishing boat. The search operation is ongoing, it said.
Apparently, most of them might not leave the 30-meter-long and rusted boat in time when it capsized and sank regarding 50 nautical miles (regarding 92 kilometers) off the south-western coast of Greece on Wednesday morning. Many children are said to have been among the people on board.
So far, ships belonging to the Greek Coast Guard and Navy have brought the bodies of 79 people to the southern Greek port of Kalamata. The 104 survivors were housed in tents in the port of this port city. Authorities said 26 of them had to be treated in hospital mainly for hypothermia.
