French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that he would meet the owner of Twitter and Tesla, Elon Musk, on Friday to “talk to him regarding cars,” while the French government wants to persuade the American billionaire to set up a factory in the country.
“We will talk regarding artificial intelligence where it is used, social networks and regulatory frameworks,” the French president said in the corridors of the “Viva Technology” exhibition.
He added, “I will also talk to him regarding cars, batteries and this sector, and promote the French and European attraction.”
Controversial because of his statements and the way he acquired Twitter, Elon Musk is seeking to build a new huge factory to add to the existing factories in the United States, Germany and China.
He is scheduled to make an intervention on Friday in the seventh edition of “Viva Technology”, one of the most prominent technical exhibitions that opened in Paris on Wednesday.
The French government hopes to convince Musk that “France is the best place in Europe to build the next Tesla factory,” Digital Affairs Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Wednesday on CNBC.
At the end of May, the minister threatened Twitter that it would be “banned” from the European Union if it did not respect European rules, especially with regard to content moderation.
Macron, who has met Elon Musk twice in recent months, at the Viva Technology fair, called for a “collaborative approach in the sector” and “social networks that respect our democratic lives more, eliminate violence and better protect our children.”
