More than six years following Carrie Fisher’s death, the “Star Wars” icon’s final film is set to be released. The 2016 fantasy film “Wonderwell” is scheduled to open in US cinemas at the end of June and then be released digitally, as “Deadline.com” reported. Director Vlad Marsavin explained to the film portal that the corona pandemic, expensive special effects and Fisher’s death had delayed completion.
Just a few weeks following filming ended in Italy, Fisher died on December 27, 2016 at the age of 60. A few days earlier, she had suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles.
“Wonderwell” takes place alternately in an Italian city and in a fantasy world. A young girl (Kiera Milward) gets lost in a forest and is magically transported to another world. Fisher appears in the role of a witch named Hazel. The British musician Rita Ora (32, “For You”) also plays.
Fisher rose to fame as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies. The actress was still in front of the camera for the film “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, which was released in 2017. She also made a brief appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), thanks to the use of previously unreleased footage.
