NASA published a impressive panoramic image of the morning and followingnoon on Mars that was captured by the cameras of the rover of the Curiosity mission, which landed in Gale crater154 kilometers wide, in August 2012, in order to determine if the area might have once supported Earth-like life.

According to the US space agency on Tuesday, the postcard is an artistic interpretation of the landscape, with color added to two black and white panoramas captured on April 8 at 09:20 and 15:40 (local Mars time). in the so-called Marker Band Valley.

“Anyone who has been to a national park knows that the scene looks different in the morning than it does in the followingnoon,” said Curiosity mission engineer Doug Ellison, who planned and processed the images.

The panoramas were taken during the Martian winter, a period when there is less dust in the air, causing the red planet’s shadows to become sharper and deeper.

Notably, the Radiation Assessment Detector (RAD), shown as a white circle in the bottom right of the image, helps scientists learn how to protect the first astronauts to be sent to Mars from radiation on the planet’s surface.
