US Secretary of State Brinken will visit China this week. 14, the State Department announced. The Biden administration is seeking to repair and stabilize relations with China that have become more tense in recent months.

Mr. Blinken will visit Beijing from June 16-19. It was his first visit to China as Secretary of State. “We will discuss the importance of maintaining open communication in order to responsibly manage U.S.-China relations,” the State Department said in a statement. “It also raises bilateral concerns, global and regional issues, and the potential for cooperation on shared challenges across nations,” he continued.

Blinken had planned to visit Beijing in February, but canceled it following a balloon allegedly used for Chinese reconnaissance flew into US airspace. The issue has sparked new tensions between the United States and China, with recent incidents in which US and Chinese warships and military aircraft approached each other.
