The foreign ministers of the United States and China had a phone call yesterday (13th) and emphasized the importance of stable management of bilateral relations.

U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement today (14th) that Secretary of State Tony Blincoln and Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang had a telephone meeting, and Minister Blincoln said, “We are open to responsibly managing US-China relations to avoid miscalculations and conflicts. We discussed the importance of maintaining a normal communication channel.”

Spokesman Matthew also said that Secretary Blincoln discussed various bilateral and international issues in the call, and that the United States would continue diplomatic dialogue and raise concerns as well as areas of potential cooperation with China.

Qin said in the phone call that the US hopes to work with China to manage differences and promote exchanges and cooperation, so as to prevent the decline of bilateral relations and return bilateral relations to a healthy and stable development track, according to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency. It was reported today (14th).

In particular, the news agency said that Chin conveyed China’s stern position regarding the Taiwan issue.

Qin urged the US to respect China’s position on Taiwan issues, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and stop undermining China’s sovereignty, security and development interests in the name of competition.
