Franky Zapata has not finished surprising. The famous flying man, who notably distinguished himself by crossing the English Channel on a Flyboard, should still make a splash at the opening of the VivaTech show in Paris, with the presentation of his latest creation: the AirScooter. A small ultra-innovative vertical take-off aircraft, which might open up a new market in the field of aerial leisure, or even the urban mobility of the future.
The device unveiled this Wednesday morning is more like a vertical take-off and landing aircraft (ADAV in French or VTOL in English) than a scooter. It combines six motors with electric propellers, powered by batteries, themselves recharged by a small heat engine, and a small wing and allows a single passenger to be carried at a maximum speed of 100 km/h, for 2 hours of autonomy. But unlike the many other ADAV projects that have multiplied around the world, the AirScooter can be piloted by all, following a brief training, without a pilot’s license, thanks to a largely automated flight control system, with an innovative algorithm developed in-house.
