The artist, Maryam Al-Khasht, was able to draw attention to her strongly during the last Ramadan drama season, as she was able to brilliantly embody the role of Israa in the series “Nadra Currency”, which won the approval of critics and viewers. It is a role that she considers one of the most important roles she participated in during her career. “Ma’am,” she met Maryam Elkhosht In an interview regarding her role in this work and the secret of her resorting to a psychiatrist because of it, and regarding several issues in the following dialogue.
In the beginning, tell us regarding your role in the series “Nadra Coin”?
I played the role of “Israa” in the series, and she is a strange, different and new character for me, and I can consider her the most important role in which I participated during my career.
Are you not afraid of accepting the role of a girl from Upper Egypt?
Indeed, I was worried when I was offered the role, especially since it is a Upper Egypt drama, and that is why I prepared well for it, and asked regarding the work team that would develop our speaking and performance skills, and teach the cultural details of the series’ environment.
The difficulty was in the multiplicity of events
What was the first thing you focused on following accepting the role?
The dialect corrector is the one who most attracted my thinking, and when I learned that he was Abdel Nabi al-Hawari, I agreed, especially since he won the praise of everyone.
How did you face the difficulty of the Saidi dialect?
I received extensive training in the Saidi dialect. That is why the matter was not difficult, as Upper Egypt is divided into several regions, and the action took place in an area closer to Qena. Therefore, the language was not difficult, especially since I know a lot regarding it by virtue of my originally belonging to the Minya governorate in southern Egypt.
So what is the difficulty in your role?
The difficulty was in the multiplicity of major dramatic events in the series and the story, as the topics are very rich, and the situations are harsh, in addition to the exposure of the character “Israa” to harsh pressures, as she is a woman residing in one of the hamlets in Upper Egypt, married to one of the major figures there. However, do not give birth.
She appeared at work almost without make-up, weren’t you afraid of it?
It was not a personal choice. Appearing without make-up or hair styled was a decision of the director, and it was not permissible to discuss the matter. In Upper Egypt, women are their nature, and we must present it as it is, and that is what actually happened.
Someone likened you to the artist Sherihan, who presented the movie “The Bracelet and the Ring.” How did you find it?
I was very much surprised by the attack on this analogy, as the analogy is real and proves that there are strange rituals that exist in Upper Egypt, and that only the excitement is common to them, and not what the two characters fell into followingwards, nor the successive events in the two works.
What is your most difficult scene in the series?
I used to think that the scene of the confrontation with Wiam Majdi was the most difficult, but there was a scene in which I was injured by Muhammad Fahim, as we rehearsed it 5 times, and we filmed it twice, and each time the beating was real, until I bruised my knees and cut my lips.
But was the scene itself the most difficult psychologically?
No, the most difficult scene psychologically, and it caused me great harm, was the scene following the confrontation with “Nafiya”, when “Alaa” entered talking to the child, thinking that she was his daughter, but in fact she is not.
How did you deal with this psychological harm?
The role affected me very psychologically, so I had to go to a psychiatrist, in order to recover from the psychological effects left by the series “Nadra Currency”, especially since the work is different in everything, and its heroes care regarding the smallest details, along with the director Mando El Adl.

Trend is not a measure of success
What is the criterion for the success of any business for you?
The street alone is the decisive factor in the success of any business. What matters to us is knowing what the public wants to watch and talk regarding. When we find a work that is at the forefront of the audience’s conversation, this means that the public is interested in knowing what is new in this issue, even if it is repeated.
But the series “Nadra Currency” did not lead the trend throughout Ramadan?
Trend is not a measure of success.
What series are you keen to follow this year?
The series “The Seventh Harsha” and “Al-Safara” are two very special works, and I was keen to follow them very much.
Who is the star of Ramadan, from your point of view?
Taha El Desouky is the most distinguished one this year.
How do you see the 15-episode series?
I am fond of this type of series and I hope it continues. I am the daughter of this experience.
