Vegas Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault received the Conn-Smythe Trophy following winning the Stanley Cup on Tuesday.

With 13 goals during his playoff run, the Quebecer finished tied for the lead in scoring in the current playoffs with Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl. His 25 points are only one less than the leader this spring, his teammate Jack Eichel. He shone with 20 assists and 26 points during the playoffs.

With an assist on Nicolas Hague’s first-period goal in the 9-3 win, Marchessault picked up at least one point in a 10e consecutive game which had never happened before for a Knights player, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. In the final, once morest the Florida Panthers, he provided four goals and as many assists in five games.

He is the first Quebecer to win the trophy awarded to the most valuable player in the playoffs since Jean-Sébastien Giguère with the Anaheim Ducks in 2003.

The 32-year-old Marchessault had experienced the defeat of the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final in 2018 before the Washington Capitals. He then finished the playoffs with 21 points in 20 games.

Captain Mark Stone was not to be forgotten in the Conn-Smythe race. With his hat trick in Game 5, he brought his total goals to 11 and his points to 24 in the playoffs.

Knights goaltender Adin Hill also had a memorable streak with a record of 11 wins once morest four losses, coming on as a relief following the injury to Laurent Brossoit during the series once morest the Edmonton Oilers.

Marchessault was passed over in the NHL Entry Draft. After two games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, then 47 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he stood out with a 30-goal season with the Panthers in 2016-17. He then found himself with the Golden Knights when they arrived in the NHL.

He has since become the team’s all-time leading scorer, with 348 points in 432 games.
