Spencer Torkelson’s heroics lead Detroit to comeback victory over Atlanta Braves

DETROIT — Spencer Torkelson sparked a three-run ninth-inning rally off Raisel Iglesias with a two-run home run and hit the game-winning single in the tenth as Detroit beat the Detroit Braves 6-5 Monday night. Atlanta and end the Tigers’ nine-game losing streak.

Andy Ibanez started the flip following trailing 4-0 with a homer in the seventh and threw Sam Hillard homer from left field in the 10th as Detroit improved to 7-3 in extra-innings this year.

Marcell Ozuna was hit in the wrist on a pitch by Garrett Hill in the fourth and left the game in the next inning with a bruise.

Atlanta led 5-2 when Jonathan Schopp singled off Iglesias (2-3) to lead off the ninth and Torkelson fired 440 feet to left field for his sixth home run.

Matt Vierling, who returned from the disabled list, singled and Zach Short tying the score with a single to left in a changeup with the count 1-2. Iglesias struck out Ibáñez and the game went to extra innings.

For the Braves, Venezuelans Ronald Acuña Jr. 5-1 with three RBIs, Orlando Arcia 4-1 with one scored. The Dominican Marcell Ozuna 1-1 with a run scored. Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario 5-0.

For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 5-2 with a run scored. Cuban Andy Ibáñez 4-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
