The project for a new 5G antenna located in the town of Rochefort in the canton of Neuchâtel, near the natural site of Creux du Van, is arousing controversy. The inquest ended Monday with a record number of signatures once morest the project.

This project awakens a very emotional debate around 5G technology and its effects on health and the environment. More than 2,200 signatures were collected, including 1,500 in the canton of Neuchâtel, and thirteen cantons are represented. This is a record, according to Chantal Blanc, member of the “Stop 5G Glâne” association.

She has participated in more than 70 collective oppositions over the past four years. For her, the impressive number of oppositions to the project is indicative of the fed up of the population.

When we leave it to the operators, they are able to put the most powerful installation possible, and that is not acceptable

“We can say that it is the antenna too many. Many people have antennas imposed on steeples in front of their homes, on schools, in the middle of the village. At some point, that’s enough”, explains Chantal Blanc in La Matinale de la RTS.

“We see that when we leave it to the operators, they are able to install the most powerful installation possible to water an entire region, and that is not acceptable. A safeguard is needed. The current framework is far too lax.”

Motion in the Council of States

For its part, Swisscom, which would operate the antenna with Salt, recalls that the concessionaires have the obligation to cover the whole of Switzerland and that this place is very busy, hence the importance of the antenna.

Opponents reject this need for maximum coverage. “I think 5G should be targeted in certain places. It’s as if I wanted more light in my house and for that we installed a street lamp outside. We don’t think regarding digital sobriety”, is sorry Chantal Blanc.

Chance of the calendar, the Council of States is considering on Tuesday a PLR motion which recommends a rapid deployment of 5G.
