The price of the dollar recorded a decline once morest the Lebanese pound on the black market during today’s trading, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, with anticipation of Wednesday’s session in Parliament.

On Wednesday, the Lebanese Parliament will hold a crucial session to elect the President of the Republic, while the political forces are divided and accounts are mixed over the candidates.

The price of the dollar on the banking platform of the Central Bank of Lebanon maintained its level at 86,200 thousand Lebanese pounds, amid transaction activity worth $ 185 million, according to the latest data issued by the Central Bank of Lebanon.

The price of the dollar fell once morest the Lebanese pound today on the black market, to the level of 93,150 thousand pounds for purchase and 93,250 thousand pounds for sale, compared to 93,200 thousand pounds for purchase and 93,300 thousand pounds for sale.

The price of the dollar today, according to the Central Bank of Lebanon, was 15 thousand pounds.

The Lebanese people are awaiting Wednesday’s session in light of unprecedented political polarization, especially with the presence of more than 20 deputies who have not decided their positions regarding the presidential elections.

Lebanon is going through a political crisis amid a presidential vacuum and economic crises that began in 2019, and led to Lebanon’s failure to pay its obligations, with the deterioration of the price of the Lebanese pound, bringing the value of the dollar to more than 93,000 pounds, compared to 1,500 pounds before the crisis.

The International Monetary Fund warned of the deteriorating economic situation in Lebanon, stressing the need for urgent action to implement comprehensive economic reforms, to avoid “irreparable consequences.”

IMF spokeswoman Julie Kozak stated that the fund’s experts concluded Article IV consultations with the Lebanese authorities on June 1, and concluded that reforms are needed to end the “severe and worsening crisis” facing the Lebanese economy.
