ESA unveils the first image of Mars without its atmosphere

If Mars is nicknamed the red planet, it may not be that much. This is in any case what seems to reveal an image posted by the ESA on the occasion of the anniversary of the European exploration of the planet Mars by the Mars Express probe.

If the planet appears red to us, it is above all because of the presence in its atmosphere of scarlet particles. This is also what explains the color of the Martian sky, often red too.

But what regarding the surface of the planet? This is the question the European Space Agency wanted to answer by posting an image of the planet Mars if it were devoid of its atmosphere. A reconstruction of the colors of the ground which aims to be as precise as possible, and which reveals a reality very different from that which one might expect.

Mars always appears a little red to us, but not only. Areas of black also stand out, as well as a variety of tones ranging from blue to green that allow you to see much more distinctly the very recognizable reliefs of Valles Marineris, the widest canyon in the solar system, a sort of gigantic river without water. which is beyond imagination.
