The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) affirmed this Monday that “State agents” of Cuba caused the death of two opponentswhich occurred in 2012 in an alleged road accident.
The body published a report with its conclusions on the deaths of Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero.
The opponents, who were then 60 and 31 years old, died on July 22, 2012 while riding in a carat the height of Bayamo, regarding 650 kilometers east of Havana.

Payá and Cepero “were subjected to various acts of violence, harassment, threats, attempts on their lives” and “finally a vehicular crash caused their death,” the IACHR said in the report.
The document maintained that there are “serious and sufficient indications to conclude that state agents participated in the deaths” of the two opponents, according to the AFP news agency.
He also said that he identified “multiple irregularities and omissions in the investigation of the facts”, such as “lack of expertise or assessment of the statements of the survivors,” and that “the authorities took an immediate official position.”
He work added that the Cuban State “violated the right to personal integrity” of Carromero, who was detained “illegally” and “threatened” into confessing his alleged responsibility, and subjected to “torture and inhuman treatment such as beatings, lack of access to the open air, sunlight, and adequate nutrition.”
Payá, who also had Spanish nationality, had founded the Christian Liberation Movement in 1987 to oppose the one-party regime then headed by Fidel Castro.
