Starlink, a major innovation in satellite internet access developed by billionaire Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, has been expanding its satellite coverage to African countries since 2023.
Karl Stanzick, Managing Director of MTDS, shows his confidence by stating, “I am convinced that the deployment of Starlink technology in Morocco will facilitate broadband Internet access in remote rural areas, maritime operators, telemedicine services, emergency organizations and tourists.”
Starlink is the first and largest satellite constellation in low Earth orbit, providing high-speed Internet connectivity for streaming, online gaming and video calling. Using sophisticated satellites and equipment, Starlink offers low-latency connectivity around the world, with a monthly subscription of DH 1,000 ($100) and a basic equipment kit of DH 5,000 ($500), including a tripod and a satellite dish.
The Starlink offer offers download speeds ranging from 50 to 150 Mb/s and upload speeds from 10 to 20 Mb/s, greatly exceeding the very high speed threshold set at 30 Mb/s for downloading.
MTDS is committed to campaigning with players in the digital ecosystem in Morocco to encourage public authorities and the ANRT (National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency) to authorize and facilitate the deployment of Starlink, in particular by using the universal service fund. to open up areas poorly served by telecom operators.
Of note, Starlink targets remote and rural businesses, tourists seeking global connectivity, as well as shipping companies requiring high-speed internet access at sea. SpaceX’s solution also offers an ideal alternative for airlines wishing to provide Latency-free high-speed Internet connectivity in-flight.
