The Radical Civic Union will meet today its National Convention, one of the main organs of the party, in a meeting in which will ratify the membership of that force to Together for Change (JxC) and that it will be crossed by the discussion that occurs within the opposition coalition regarding its expansion.
Some 300 conventional radicals are summoned for 2:00 p.m. at the Parque Norte property, on the Buenos Aires Costanera, in a meeting that, although it will not be as decisive as the one in 2015 in Gualeguaychú, where it was resolved that the party converge with the PRO in the Cambiemos alliance (today JxC)-, it will have an intense level of debate.
The president of the National Convention, Gastón Manes, anticipated that it will be “a party marked by the tensions typical of an electoral year” and added: “I understand that there is consensus to address the most important issues: the framework of party alliances and the government platform for this year’s electoral proposal.
On possibility of extending the front, The leader maintained that this is defined “at the JxC table” and assured, in statements to Futurock radio, that the limit set by the Convention is that “the incorporations are within the political affinities to the program” that will be approved.
The radical Convention, formally, will ratify the party’s membership in JxC and endorse the technical proposals on which the party teams, grouped in the Alem Foundation, have been working for months, preparing plans for a future government.
The hottest part of the debate will be focused on the proposal to incorporate JxC into non-Kirchnerist Peronism, embodied in the figure of the governor of Córdoba, Juan Schiarettia position promoted by the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, one of the PRO presidential candidates.
This initiative to expand JxC also has the backing of Governor of Jujuy and head of the UCR, Gerardo Moralesscored in turn in the presidential race.
From a political point of view, the convention will also showcase the internal differences within radicalisma party dominated mainly by Morales and national senator Martín Lousteau.
Having been at odds, both leaders are now on the same page regarding expanding JvC and compete with a minority sector of the partycloser to the hard wing of the PRO that today is led by presidential candidate Patricia Bullrich and former president Mauricio Macri.
