The Xbox Showcase, the Microsoft conference dedicated to video games, was full of announcements! On the program: a new Xbox Series S with more storage, the Xbox Game Pass coming to GeForce Now and many big titles!

After the Sony and Summer Game Fest conferences, it was Microsoft’s turn to hold its Xbox Games Showcase conference on June 11, 2023. Needless to say, the manufacturer-publisher was expected at the turn, following a less than exciting year in 2022! We were particularly hoping for news from Bethesda’s ambitious RPG, Starfield, but also of Forza Motorsport, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and other Xbox Game Pass exclusives. And the players were not disappointed! The Redmond firm released the heavy artillery with the announcement of a new Xbox Series S, a Keanu Reeves who came to present the DLC of Cyberpunk 2077a series of new titles and a new game Star Wars. In total, no less than 27 titles were presented, half of which came from Microsoft studios and the second from third-party developers, with 12 world premieres! To review the conference, which lasted no less than two hours, it’s right here!

New Xbox Serie S: a console with more storage

One of the major announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase concerns the Xbox Series S, Microsoft’s most affordable console – unlike the Xbox Series X, it does not have a disc drive – which will be entitled to a new version . This features two major changes from the initial model released since November 2020. Firstly, instead of its usual pristine white, the new console will come in Carbon Black – good news for those who don’t want to mess their precious machine – and its internal storage capacity goes from 512 GB to 1 TB – like the Xbox Series X. More than welcome news, especially for those who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass – which gives them access to more a hundred games – because 512 GB of storage fills up quickly! Of course, it is possible to add additional SSD memory cards, but their price is not given.

No hardware changes though. The Xbox Series S keeps its 10 GB of RAM, its display in 1440p definition instead of 4K with a refresh rate of up to 120 FPS and support for HDR (the famous High Dynamic Range which increases the dynamics of lights) for compatible displays and televisions. The new model will be a little more expensive than the original, priced at 350 euros. Those who do not want to pay such a sum can always turn to the 512 GB model, which remains at the price of 300 euros. The 1 TB version will be available on 1is September, and pre-orders are already open on le site de Microsoft.

Xbox Game Pass: games are coming to GeForce Now

The Xbox Game Pass has been very successful since its deployment. Thanks to this subscription, players have access to a huge catalog on console, but also on PC. Issue: Different subscriptions only support Xbox version of games. This means that, in order to be able to play, it is imperative to use a controller. Exit the mouse and the keyboard, which can be a problem for certain games, such as shooters and strategy games. But as the Redmond firm quietly announced on his blog post, select Xbox Game Pass games will soon be available on GeForce Now. Good news given that the catalog of the latter is still quite limited, despite all the efforts of Nvidia.

This means that, for 20 euros per month – 10 euros for the Xbox Game Pass on PC and 10 euros for the GeForce Now Priority subscription – you can play many titles on any platform with a resolution of 1080p – a higher subscription allows you to climb up to 4K. Be careful however, this partnership does not concern all the games in the Microsoft catalog, only a selection, and we do not yet know the list of games concerned. The deployment should take place in the coming months.
