The police have opened an investigation into an arson attack which targeted a dwelling overnight from Sunday to Monday in Sainte-Thérèse, in the Lower Laurentians.
The authorities were called shortly before 1 a.m. for the start of a fire caused by a Molotov cocktail in an apartment building located on rue Bélanger, near rue Saint-Joseph.
The firefighters quickly brought the situation under control and no one was injured among the occupants of the premises, according to the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville.
Although only one apartment on the ground floor was targeted by the incendiary object, the building, which has around twenty apartments, was however evacuated as a preventive measure.
“Once the fire was brought under control, the affected residents were able to return to their residence during the night,” said RIPTB spokesperson Karine Desaulniers.
A large perimeter has been erected to protect the scene which remains under surveillance, according to the police who specify that no arrests have been made in the file for the moment.
Witnesses were met by the investigators, while a forensic identification technician specializing in fire scene is expected on site to determine the causes of the fire.
