Given the benefits of sunbathing for our animals, it should not be completely prohibited but used sparingly.
On spring and autumn days, it is no problem for the dog or cat to lie in the sun for long hours. The temperatures are not too high and the risk of heat stroke is almost non-existent.
In hot weather, however, it is out of the question to let your pet bask in the sun for too long! It is guaranteed heat stroke given the little possibility of sweating of the dog or cat and the total lack of protection.
What are the recommendations and precautions to take?
- Fresh water always available,
- cooling mat,
- sunscreen (for dogs or cats with light coats, Mexican hairless dogs, Sphynx),
- shaded area on the terrace or in the garden to avoid prolonged exposure,
- no excessive mowing of the coat (it has a protective role for the skin),
- in case of hot weather, preferably keep your dog indoors, especially older dogs and sensitive breeds.
Sunshine yes, but sparinglylike for us!
