You asked for this week’s zot lé pa pou kroir menu from Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9, here it is: A science teacher living in the United States carried out an experiment that was original to say the least since he decided to eat every day at McDonald’s for three months. As a result, he lost 17 kilos. Apple presented its first “mixed” reality headset (virtual and augmented), called “Vision Pro”. White hair, a well-established fortune, and yet: among the millions of Chinese candidates who take the gaokao, is Liang Shi, a 56-year-old millionaire who is trying his luck for the 27th time.
– He eats McDonald’s for three months and loses 17 kilos –
What if McDonald’s food didn’t make you fat. This is what John Cisna wanted to demonstrate by embarking on the crazy experience of eating only at McDonald’s for months. Be careful however, the professor has set himself some rules, indicates BFM TV.
Indeed, he made a point of never exceeding 2,000 daily calories and walking at least 45 minutes a day.
What did his meals consist of? A bowl of cereal and two eggs for breakfast, a salad for lunch and a Big Mac dinner menu with ice cream. And according to the declarations of John Cisna and his medical analyses, following three months of this diet, to say the least, he would have lost 17 kilos and would have seen his cholesterol level decrease.

Unfortunately, the study does not mention the possible deficiencies encountered by the professor or the digestive problems linked to this type of diet.
This experience is reminiscent of the documentary Super Size Me in which Morgan Spurlock had only eaten McDo for 30 days, while walking regarding 5,000 steps a day. Result, 11 extra pounds and liver problems. However, the two experiences cannot be compared. Indeed, Morgan was not limited to 2,000 calories.
Anyway, it is strongly advised not to eat fast food every day.
– Apple hits the metaverse with $3,500 headphones –
“Blending digital content with the real world will create new experiences like we’ve never seen,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s boss, before unveiling this “revolutionary new product”, with the usual emphasis from the Californian tech giant.
The new device will be marketed from 3,499 dollars early next year.
“If you bought a new, state-of-the-art television, high-performance speakers, a powerful computer with multiple high-definition screens, a sophisticated camera and more, you wouldn’t reach the level of the Vision Pro”, assured Richard Howarth, vice-president chairman of the design group.
The headset – which isn’t wireless, unlike recent models from Quest (Meta) or Vive (HTC) – was launched at WWDC, Apple’s annual conference for developers. It is connected to a battery which is placed in the pocket and lasts two hours.
Users will be able to choose the degree of immersion, thanks to a wheel that allows them to switch from augmented reality (AR, superimposition of virtual elements on reality) to virtual reality (VR, complete immersion).
Carolina Milanesi said she was “impressed by the fluidity”: “I was in an immersive universe when someone started talking to me and that person materialized in front of me. I might see her, she might see my eyes and we were able to have a conversation”, detailed the analyst of Creative Strategies to AFP.
– “A little clumsy” –
The presentation was “stunning”, commented Insider Intelligence analyst Yory Wurmser, although “the choice to have an external battery is a bit of an awkward compromise”.
“There are two main questions left unanswered: who is going to pay $3,500? (…), and do people really want these VR and AR experiences with a wire?”.
Users will control virtual apps and screens through eye movements, certain hand gestures, and voice commands.
The helmet has sensors that “create your digital image” through an artificial intelligence program trained on videos of “thousands of diverse individuals”, explained Richard Howarth.
During video calls, the interlocutors will thus see “a natural representation (of the user) which dynamically reproduces the movements of the face and the hands”, he specified.
The leaders presented potential uses related to work, communication and entertainment, including a partnership with Disney, but no games or physical exercises (such as virtual tennis).
Apple has “exceeded all my expectations,” Rolf Illenberger told AFP. Founder of VRdirect, a virtual reality consulting company, he regrets, however, that the firm has mainly shown 2D applications (films, video games): “I would have liked them to show more 360° apps. But they must first build an ecosystem to bring out new content that matches the technical capabilities”.
– “Helmet” –
It’s the biggest product launch for Apple since its smartwatch, the Apple Watch, unveiled in 2015.
The apple brand thus lands on the privileged playground of Meta, its neighbor and rival in Silicon Valley.
Virtual reality is currently dominated by the social media giant – its Quest brand headsets accounted for more than 80% of the market at the end of 2022, according to the firm Counterpoint.
– In China, this millionaire passes the bac for the 27th time –
In terms of social success, Liang Shi can be proud, having started his career with a menial job in a factory before founding his own flourishing building materials company.
But the fifty-something has always kept a frustration, that of not having obtained a sufficient mark in the “gaokao” – or entrance examination to higher education establishments – to be able to integrate the prestigious university of Sichuan, the southwestern province. of China where he lives.
In the Asian country, this exam is the test of a lifetime, especially for the most modest.
Only students with a very high score can access the best universities, in a country where competition is fierce in education, places are limited and family pressure is strong.
And a diploma from a recognized university is synonymous with social status and virtual assurance of being recruited by a good company.
– “The irreducible of the gaokao” –
This year, in order to be competitive among the 13 million candidates in the ranks, Liang Shi says he led a “monk’s life” for several months. Waking up at dawn every day, he immersed himself in the textbooks for 12 hours a day.
“It’s unpleasant to think that I didn’t manage to go to university,” he told AFP. Because “I really wanted to go there and become an intellectual”.
Over the past four decades, he has tried his luck 26 times, but each time his grade was insufficient to open the doors to the university of his choice.
The local media ended up making him a celebrity. “They call me + the irreducible of the gaokao +”, he says proudly.
When he took the exam for the first time, in 1983, he was only 16 years old. Then, for almost ten years, he ironed it to improve his grade, before throwing in the towel in 1992.
At the time, the authorities limited access to the gaokao to high school students or students under the age of 25.
As soon as this limit was lifted in 2001, Liang Shi thought he had a new opportunity.
He has since taken the exam 16 times, and every year since 2010. Even the Covid period, marked by strict health restrictions complicating the holding of exams, did not discourage him.
Once the test passed for the 27th time, the eternal candidate planned to relax a little, following all these months of work.
“I’m going to play mah-jong with my friends for three days and three nights!”, he says.
