What a Diamond League meeting in Paris! The French public experienced two world records with that of the 5000m women for Faith Kipyegon and that of the 3000m steeplechase men for Lamecha Girma.

Faith Kipyegon is on fire. A week following breaking the 1500m world record in Florence, the 29-year-old Kenyan broke the 5000m record at the Diamond League meeting in Paris.

In the Charléty stadium, Kipyegon maintained an ultra high tempo. She was able to count on the electronic hare and on a mad fight with the Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey, now a former world record holder, to win in 14’05”20 and lower the best mark by more than one second (14’06”62).

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, it was Lamecha Girma who broke the best mark in history in 7’52”11. The previous record was held by Saif Saaeed Shaheen (Stephen Cherono) in 7’53”63. And to think that the Ethiopian is only 22 years old.

There were two Swiss present in the French capital. At the length, Simon Ehammer managed a very solid competition with six jumps around 8 meters. The Thurgovian finished 2nd with a jump to 8m11. It was the Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou who won with 8m13.

On 110 m hurdles, Jason Joseph did not really shine for a modest 7th place in 13”29, following having made 13”36 in qualifications. The victory logically went to the American Grant Holloway in 12”98 for the best world performance of the year.

The women’s 800m was an opportunity to see Keely Hodgkinson at work. The Briton, vice-world and Olympic champion, crushed the race to win in 1’55”77. This is a new national record for eleven hundredths and a best world performance of the year.

Note also Noah Lyles’ victory over 100m in 9”97 and Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s 7’54”10 over the 2 miles for the best performance in history in this very little-used discipline.
