A wooden Citroen 2CV car was sold at an auction in France for gold. This rare vehicle fetched 2.10 lakh pounds (roughly Rs. 1.86 crore). This is the only Citroen 2CV whose body is made entirely of wood. Although this vehicle, registered in France, is made of wood, it can be used like a normal car.

A vintage car enthusiast and museum owner from Paris, Sean Paul Favand, acquired the car carved in wood at auction. “It’s more valuable as a work of art than as a car,” Favant told AFP. In 2016, a Citroen 2 CV was sold for 1,72,800 Euros. A rare 1961 model 2CV Sahara model fetched this much. New sales surpass this record as well.

Michael Robillard built a suitable body for the 2CV in wood. Robillard made the sides of the vehicle from walnut and the chassis from pear and apple trees. A single piece of cherry wood is used for the bonnet. Michael Robillard carved this wooden car by hand using only tools like a chisel and sandpaper. It took five years to complete the construction of this car which started in 2011. Robillard says that it took 5,000 hours to transform the car into this form.

Robillard has a strong relationship with the wooden Citroen 2 CV because it was built with so much effort. ‘This car is my daughter’s. I have three sons. “This is my little daughter,” Robillard responded. The 2CV was a model launched by Citroen in 1948 to compete with the Volkswagen Beetle. This vehicle is the 3CV model later released by Citroen.

Robillard reveals that he has another similar project in mind. Another French classic, the Citroen DS, will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2025. By then, Robillard plans to carve the Citroen DS out of wood. Robillard has been a carpenter since the age of 14. Robillard has made a name for himself since the 1990s by carving miniature models of world-famous vehicles in wood.
