NFL Rookie, Isiah Pacheco: From Injuries to Super Bowl Success with Kansas City Chiefs

Isiah Pacheco will probably remember his rookie season in the NFL for the rest of his life. The running back didn’t just win the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. He also defied two serious injuries in the final.

In his first NFL season, Pacheco proved that he can bite his teeth – and not too closely.

According to NFL insider Kristian Dyer, the pro spent much of his rookie season with a torn labrum. A larger tear actually has to be operated on immediately in order to rule out long-term consequences.

Pacheco apparently did not want to miss a single minute of the game in his first year in the NFL. He still represented this attitude even following the AFC Championship Game. The running back suffered a broken hand in the narrow 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Most other athletes would certainly have thrown in the towel following this second serious injury at the latest. But Pacheco was eager to support his team in the Super Bowl that followed. His mission should succeed.

NFL rookie was the leading Chiefs runner in the Super Bowl

Despite his injuries, Isiah Pacheco made a strong showing in the NFL final. The seventh-round pick advanced to become the Kansas City Chiefs’ best runner over the course of the evening.

He eventually had 15 carries for 76 yards and was rewarded with a touchdown that made it 21:24.

In an incredibly exciting Super Bowl, the Chiefs finally defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. So without Pacheco’s sacrificial contribution, his team might not have won the SB.

Incidentally, following the end of his rookie season, Pacheco underwent two surgeries to be fully healthy for the start of the season in September.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave a quick update on Monday. “He’s making progress. We’ll just see how he handles it. I can’t even give you a timetable but he’s fine.”
