Donald Trump, Mike Pence and Ron Desantis, three of the seven Republican candidates that will be measured in primaries for the presidential nomination, will participate in the same event this weekend in North Carolina in which they will offer campaign speeches.
In the case of DeSantis, current governor of Florida, his message is scheduled for hours of the night from today. Former President Trump and the Vice President under the same administration will have their address spaces on Saturday.
The convention that begins this Friday will be the first event in which the three Republicans will participate and it will begin just hours following Trump himself announced that he had been federally charged with seven charges for documents found in his Mar-a-Lago mansion.
Authorities have not released the official indictment document.but Trump announced yesterday through his social networks that he was summoned to appear before the Miami Court next Tuesday for crimes ranging from illegal withholding of government secrets, obstruction of justice and conspiracy.
This weekend’s meeting will serve as a barometer of the impact of the candidates’ message among Republican voters in the state, anticipated The Hill.
Political scientists and other analysts will focus on messages from DeSantis and Pence to see if they distance themselves from the former president, or even if they attack him.
In the particular case of DeSantis and Trump, they have clashed publicly in recent weeks over various issues.
Trump has gone so far as to name the governor of Florida “DeSanctimonious” and has questioned his failed official campaign launch on Twitter Spaces, as well as his handling of the pandemic.
To this, DeSantis has responded with allegations that Trump is moving to the left and that the former president moved to Florida during the health emergency.
In Pence’s case, observers will pay particular attention to references to his former boss.
Few days ago, the former vice president attacked Trump directly at an activity in Iowa in which he formalized his aspiration.
“Americans need to know that leaders in the Republican Party will uphold our oath to support and defend the Constitutioneven when it is not in his political interests,” Pence declared, referring to Trump’s moves to overturn the results of the 2020 election in which current President Joe Biden prevailed.
“One last word that in part brings us here today: I believe that anyone who puts himself above the Constitution should never be President of the United States, and someone who asks another to put himself above the Constitution should never to be president of the United States,” he said.
