Documents revealed by a federal court, Friday, showed that former US President Donald Trump faces 37 criminal charges, including charges of unlawfully keeping confidential documents, and conspiracy to obstruct justice following leaving the White House in 2021.
The accusations stemmed from Trump, who announced his candidacy for the US presidential elections next year, dealing with sensitive government materials that he took with him when he left the White House in January 2021.
The indictment showed that the classified documents contain information regarding the defense capabilities and weapons of the United States and other countries.
It also includes information regarding US nuclear programs, potential vulnerabilities in the United States and its allies that expose them to military attacks, and plans to respond to a foreign attack.
The Justice Department announced the indictment on a day when two of Trump’s defense team resigned in the case, and a former aide was charged.
Trump is scheduled to appear in court for the first time in connection with this case, in Miami, on Tuesday, the day before his seventy-seventh birthday.
