On June 9, the Guangdong “High Quality Development Research Tour” interview group came to Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port. As the only natural deep-water port in Guangzhou, Nansha Port has smoothed the international voyage route for goods in the Pearl River Delta region and opened an important channel for China’s foreign trade.

According to reports, as of now, Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port has built 20 deep-water container berths, with an annual throughput capacity of over 24 million TEUs, and foreign trade routes reach more than 300 ports in more than 100 countries and regions.

The Nansha port area has built a large-scale deep-water container, automobile, grain, petrochemical, and cruise specialized terminal cluster. It has become a modern port area with the largest comprehensive volume, the most complete service functions, and the best collection and distribution conditions in South China. The port service efficiency is world-leading. The throughput capacity of the port area is in the forefront of the world.

The reporter learned that at present, the construction of the fourth phase of Nansha Port is in full swing. As a new benchmark for smart green ports, the Nansha Port Area has built the world’s first fully automated terminal for river-sea railway intermodal transport in the fourth phase of Nansha, the world’s largest fully automated terminal with a horizontal layout, the first Beidou navigation unmanned intelligent guided vehicle, and the world’s leading intelligent fully automated terminal. The automated terminal information system introduces the concept of “sponge port”, builds a “zero-carbon” port, and contributes Chinese wisdom and Guangzhou solutions to the promotion of automated terminal technology.

The fifth phase of Nansha Port, the international general-purpose terminal, and the sea-rail combined transport terminal are also under construction. In the future, the port throughput capacity of the entire Nansha port area is expected to reach more than 30 million TEUs, ranking the forefront of a single port area in the world.

Song Xiaoming, deputy general manager of Guangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd., said that Guangzhou Port Group has achieved considerable results in optimizing the port business environment, smart port construction and green port construction in Nansha Port Area. In terms of optimizing the business environment at the port, cooperate with the customs to implement the measures of “advance declaration and shipside diversion”. According to the customer’s choice, the terminal can carry out the operation mode of “direct pick-up at the ship’s side” and “direct loading at the port”; promote the “one-port link in the bay area” ” and other new logistics models; promote the paperless import and export of Nansha Port Area.

Song Xiaoming introduced that in terms of smart port construction, in July 2022, the Phase IV fully automated terminal in Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port (hereinfollowing referred to as Nansha Phase IV Terminal) equipped with “Bay Area Core” was officially put into operation.

The world’s first “Guangzhou Solution” integrates terminal operating system (Terminal Operating System, TOS for short), dispatching system and equipment control system, intelligent gate, and intelligent tally system, which can be used for automatic equipment operation, interaction, container loading and unloading, and storage Scheduling optimal resources and planning optimal paths in various operation scenarios such as transportation, transshipment, and entry and exit gates, to ensure the safety and efficiency of fully automated terminals from the decision-making end to the execution end.

“The Nansha Phase 4 Wharf where we are now is a fully automated wharf. At a glance, we can see that these vehicles running on the wharf plane are intelligent guided unmanned vehicles.” Song Xiaoming said, “This unmanned vehicle’s Guidance mainly relies on 5G plus Beidou’s sky signals, all of which are domestically produced.” In terms of green port construction, it will fully promote the construction and use of shore power facilities, increase efforts to promote the application of clean energy, and strengthen environmental protection technology research.

It is worth mentioning that the Nansha Port Area has completed and put into operation the largest group of warehouses near the port in China—Guangzhou Nansha International Logistics Center, with a construction area of 620,000 square meters, including 3 cold storages with a storage capacity of 300,000 tons, which is the largest in the country. Lingang warehouse group.

Relying on Nansha International Logistics Center, the cold chain logistics of Guangzhou Port has developed rapidly. It has attracted well-known global shipping companies including Maersk and COSCO Shipping to open the “Cherry Express” in Nansha. Since 2019, Nansha Port has served Chile’s “Cherry Express” for four consecutive years, and has become the port with the largest import volume of cherries in mainland China. 50% of imports.

Chen Siyong, a first-level researcher at the Guangzhou Port Authority, said that relying on the full-scale operation of the Nansha International Cold Chain Project, it will support global cold chain business marketing and the introduction of goods in the future, and continue to promote the import of key fruit categories such as Thai durians and South American cherries. The business gathers in the Nansha port area. Strive for export sources of vegetables and fruits to operate through Nansha Port Area, strengthen marketing efforts to major global meat suppliers, and build Nansha Port Area into a cold chain hub for domestic and foreign trade and import and export.
