Game News We expected so much more: did the Summer Game Fest conference disappoint?

The Summer Game Fest has just started and the announcements are already numerous, but are they promising? Is this new edition disappointing or on the contrary extraordinary? This is what we will see in this JV Debate.

A big rhythm problem

The Summer Game Fest has already been in full swing since June 8, even if the publishers still have a lot to show. The announcements are multiplying and the promises are many, but his organization seems to have spoiled some of the magic. During its opening, the ceremony drew several trailers (at PlayStation, Ubisoft, Xbox, etc.) and spoiled the rhythm. If the show started off with a bang with a focus on big games and interviews with developers, it quickly got engulfed in a tunnel of trailers without necessarily any interest and advertisements. In addition, publishers will also have the right to their conferences, but some of their titles will have already been revealed. Goodbye surprise. For example, we might see this June 8, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the return of an emblematic saga which had disappeared for 13 years. If the game looks intriguing, its announcement might have been a huge highlight during Ubisoft Forward on June 11.. Another problem was that airtime was not necessarily distributed adequately. Nicolas Cage stayed very long minutes to present his skin in Dead by Daylight, while important games like Sonic Superstars or Lies of P, were only entitled to their respective trailers.

A conference full of surprises

Yes, the pace is quite inconsistent, but the content is thoughtful. It’s the publishers themselves who choose which games they want to present and when. If they decide to show one during the opening show, it’s because they see the point. For example, we might see some gameplay for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from the PlayStation Showcase, but incorporating it into the Summer Game Fest allowed us to give even more information (here the release date). We explain all this in the video at the top of the article. Despite all these problems, the conference was far from disappointing. We were able to review big licenses which we expected to return like Sonic Superstars, Alan Wake II, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We were also able to discover a little more regarding certain titles that we hope will be very good, such as Lies of P or Remnant 2. But above all, we must not forget that the “E3 period” has only just begun, and that it has in store for us still full of surprises.
