The former Minister of Health of Michelle Bachelet, Helia Molina, questioned the projection on the situation of the syncytial virus in Chile announced by former minister Jaime Mañalich.

The foregoing occurs following the former minister announced last Thursday that “if things continue to be handled as they are being handled up to now” there would be 120 children who died as a result of the virus.

“If things continue to be handled as they are being handled up to now, we face a horizon of 120 children under six months deceased due to infection by respiratory syncytial virus, ”said Mañalich.

After that, the ex-minister Helia Molina questioned Mañalich’s data and even described them as absurd and inexplicable.

“Minister Mañalich has said that there are going to be 120 deaths, that is absurd, that is absolutely inexplicable,” Molina said.

Similarly, he questioned the former minister for generating “a climate of mistrust.” “Numbers are thrown away, scares are generated, a climate of mistrust is generated among the people towards those who are in charge of the issue,” Molina added in T13 Radio.

The former minister said that if the data on severe respiratory diseases in children from the last 12 years are reviewed, it can be seen that “the virulence of these viruses is higher and they are producing more serious cases.”

“This is normal following a pandemic or an epidemic as big as the one we had, so it is something to be expected,” he added.

The number of cases can be predicted by one, but the severity cannot, and the issue of having had a pandemic for three years created a difficult situation,” he concluded.
