Today, Thursday, the Russian authorities announced the death of one of its citizens in the Egyptian city of Hurghada, as a result of a shark attack in the city on the Red Sea coast.
The Russian Consulate in Hurghada published a statement on its Telegram account, in which it said that a Russian young man named Vladimir Popov, born in 1999, was killed following a shark attack in the “Dream Beach” area at regarding three o’clock in the followingnoon.
In the followingmath of the attack, the statement called on Russian citizens in Hurghada to abide by the safety instructions of the hotel and those in charge of the beaches.
She also made it clear that she is in contact with the Egyptian security services in the Red Sea governorate regarding the incident.
In recent hours, social media published a video clip of the attack on the tourist, amid news of other injured people.
Al-Hurra website reserves the right to publish the video because of the harsh scenes it contains.
In July last year, an Austrian tourist lost her life in Hurghada, too, following a shark attack.
Shark attacks in Egypt are fairly rare, but the Red Sea has more than 44 species of fish, some of which can be deadly.
The most common are the gray reef sharks, which reach a length of regarding two meters and have sharp teeth, and they are usually active in shallow waters of regarding 60 meters or less in depth.
