ABU DHABI, 8th June, 2020 (WAM) — Scottish coach David Moyes, coach of the English soccer team West Ham, has confirmed that his team’s participation in the European League competition next season will be something exciting and special, following winning the European Conference League title this season.
West Ham culminated in the Conference League title by defeating Italian Fiorentina 2-1 yesterday evening in the final match of the tournament in the Czech capital, Prague.
Moyes said in statements on the website of the European Union for the game (UEFA): “We kept our record undefeated in the Conference League this season. It was unbelievable. Participation in the European League next season will be amazing.”
On the other hand, Vincenzo Italiano, coach of Fiorentina, said: “We lost two final matches when we performed well. It is a shame. I really did not imagine that the match once morest West Ham would end in this way,” referring to West Ham deciding the match with a goal in the last minute, despite Fiorentina’s superiority in Performance on his English rival for most of the match.
The match confirmed with this, that the victory does not necessarily go to the team with the best performance, but it is the share of the best focus and exploitation of opportunities until the last second of the match.
Yesterday, West Ham crowned its first European title in 58 years, specifically since it won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1964-1965 season, and the victory in the final match yesterday was the fourteenth for West Ham in 15 matches that it played in the tournament throughout the season, and the other match ended. With a draw, the team did not lose any match on its way to the podium for the title of the second edition of the Conference League.
Moyes became the first Scottish coach to win a European championship since compatriot Sir Alex Ferguson won his second title with Manchester United in the Champions League in 2008.
West Ham was crowned the title, but it was not the best attack in the tournament, as it scored 29 goals to be the second most scoring team in the tournament, surpassed by Fiorentina, who scored 37 goals.
