WinRAR has been one of the favorite programs to decompress files for years, and it has always been presented in the form of shareware, that is, despite being paid, it has a free trial period first.
However, in practice this is very different, as users can spend a lifetime without having to pay a single pesosince WinRAR never forces the user to pay.
After Microsoft announced that Windows 11 would have official support for opening ZIP, RAR or TAR.GZ files natively, which in principle it would replace WinRARAlthough, as users mentioned at the time, some decided to pay for the program.
Celebrating the purchase of the program
One of these was Luca D’Amico, an Italian developer who decided to make the purchase on June 1, announced on his Twitter account that his time using the WinRAR test was over, further showing an invoice of 25.57 euros (regarding 470 pesos).
This action was taken very emotionally by WinRAR, who reacted quite humorously calling it a “full member of the family“.
Several Internet users praised the company’s gesture, although others considered that the expense it was too much for a program of this typewith some going so far as to suggest modifications both in its interface and functionalities to make it more popular.
Let’s remember that this is not the first time that the WinRAR account publishes some humorous message. Just when the decision to integrate support into Windows 11 was revealed, they posted the meme “”This is good“.
Actions like that of D’Amico and the companies that acquire their WinRAR licenses make the company have an estimated turnover between 15 and 25 million dollars a year, so it’s no surprise that the program remains supported for several years despite the new features of Windows 11.
