Rabat – The Malian novelist Djénéba Moumouni Traoré hosted, Wednesday in Rabat, as part of the 28th edition of the International Publishing and Book Fair (SIEL), a literary meeting focused on her career and her relationship with writing .
This cultural event was an opportunity to shine the spotlight on his book “L’Empreinte de l’Amour”, which won him the 2022 European Union Prize for the first novel.
In love with literature, Traoré has shown, from her first step into the world of writing, a strong commitment and loyalty to the female question and to the values intrinsic to the balance of society, through a critical eye and strong opinions.
Her trilogy describes the journey of three young women, Maimouna and her two best friends Jade and Aminata who decide to live from their common passion, fashion. In a patriarchal society where the weight of costumes weighs heavily, they will be confronted with the realities of this environment which opposes their ambitions and their need for freedom.
This first volume talks regarding the divergences and differences between two generations who struggle to understand each other. Lived or thwarted ambitions, love, infidelity, dreams, the desire for self-fulfillment constitute the fabric.
Physical violence once morest women is one of the major issues raised in the novel, Traoré said, on this occasion, calling for “to file a complaint, to push, to go to the end, to denounce the violence” and to deconstruct the stereotypes that stick to women’s skin.
Using her pen, Djénéba Moumouni Traoré writes to “be able to express herself in depth”, to make “our desires” understood, to become a “spokesperson for women” but also to clarify their choices.
On the other hand, she underlined the preponderant role of the man or the father within the family, explaining that “without his support, the woman suffers”, but in his presence she blossoms and opens up to life, far from forcing his choices or putting pressure on him.
Born in Mopti in 1989, Djénéba Moumouni Traoré grew up in her hometown, which she left for the capital in 2006, with her baccalaureate in her pocket.
Her passion for reading led her very early to the library of the Reverend Father Georges Bertsch private Catholic school and to the large library of the Catholic Church of Mopti. This is how she also took a liking to writing.
