The Royal Palace communicated this Wednesday two changes within its organization. Two members of the King’s entourage will indeed be replaced.

“Colonel of Air Force Patented Staff Alain Gerardy, Head of Protocol at the Household of HM the King, and Mr. William De Baets, Deputy Chief of Staff and Diplomatic Advisor to HM the King will be released from their duties respectively June 30 and July 25, 2023”indicates the Palace.

The press release also gives the reasons for these departures and the names of the replacements. Thus, Colonel Gerardy is retiring following having been Chief of Protocol of the Court since January 1, 2017. He will be replaced from July 1, 2023 by “Staff Bregate Captain Tom Devleeschauwer – who previously served as HM the King’s Ordinance Officer”.

As for William De Baets, diplomatic adviser to King Philippe since September 2020, he is stepping aside because he has been appointed Belgian Ambassador to Zagreb as part of the diplomatic movement this summer. It is Eugène Crijns, the current Economic Advisor to the King, who will succeed him.
