Flemish Parliament’s Draft Decree on Local Housing Acquisition: Challenges and Controversies

The Flemish Parliament has adopted a draft decree which wants to reserve the acquisition of housing for local people in the outskirts of Brussels. Do we want to block the French speakers? Challenge says so. And decided to attack the text in court.

Aother times, same customs. The community carousel – we used to say that in the past, especially regarding the conflicts around the Fourons – will it leave for a tour in the outskirts of Brussels?

Céline Romainville is, for her part, categorical: “I believe that the criticisms that prevailed ten years ago can be justified today once more. Restrictions on the freedom of movement or the right to property, all the criteria implemented are not proportional to the declared objectives. Moreover, the residence requirement is certainly not the best way to facilitate the acquisition of housing by people with modest incomes; there is price regulation for that, or the direct fight once morest speculation, etc. It’s pretty clear: the decree wants to reduce the presence of Francophones in these regions. In my view, appeals are therefore entirely possible, as was the case ten years ago. »
