A day following the destruction of the Kakhovka dam, the actual extent of the flood disaster in the southern Ukrainian region of Cherson is still uncertain. After masses of water from the huge Kakhovka reservoir – which is apparently also called “sea” because of its size – have been pouring into the lower course of the Dnipro River since the early hours of Tuesday morning, the floods should reach their peak on Wednesday, according to experts. According to the US company, satellite images from Maxar Technologies from Tuesday followingnoon already showed a flooded area of more than 2,500 square kilometers.
