Spokesman Lee Do-woon of the Office of the President said, “Korea entered the non-permanent member state with the approval of 180 of the 192 member states of the United Nations.”
At the recent General Assembly held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, Korea stood as the sole candidate for the Asia-Pacific region, and won more than two-thirds of the votes in favor, starting the term in January next year.
It was the first time in 11 years since 2013 that Korea re-entered the Security Council, and in 1996, it began to play an active role as the first non-permanent member.
