The World Bank Group on Monday (June 5th) provided additional financing of USD 150 million to Ghana with the aim of expanding and improving social safety nets and providing access to income-generating opportunities for the poor. productive.

The facility provided through the International Development Association (IDA), falls within the framework of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP 2) program whose objective is to protect the poor and the vulnerable in this period of budgetary difficulties.

According to the institution, this envelope also provides support to Ghana’s largest social assistance program, the Ghana School Feeding Programme, which reaches 3.6 million children in kindergartens and primary schools. in the 261 municipal, metropolitan and district assemblies.

As a reminder, last May Ghana benefited from a 3 billion USD facility from the IMF, of which the first installment of 600 million USD has already been received. The IMF program, according to the government, aims to restore macroeconomic stability and preserve debt sustainability, among other things.
