CINEMA – What might be better than the Apple Keynote to promote your film? By unveiling its new virtual reality headset, the « Vision Pro »the apple brand has offered a nice publicity stunt by unveiling the first images of Joaquin Phoenix in Napoleon, this Monday, June 5.
Directed by Ridley Scott, Napoleon is an Apple production that will be released in theaters on November 22, 2023 before being available on Apple TV. As you can see in our video at the top of the article, Joaquin Phoenix plays the French emperor. In the extract, which lasts regarding ten seconds, we see the actor of Joker on a boat or on horseback in the midst of battle.
Ridley Scott, now 85, leads Joaquin Phoenix once more, 20 years on Gladiator. For this film which retraces the life of Napoleon, he surrounded himself with Vanessa Kirby (The Son2022), Tahar Rahim (Found Guilty2021), Ludivine Sagnier (Lou! Tiny Diary2014) or even Ben Miles (Andor2022).

A film to dust off

In fact, it was Stanley Kubrick who had begun to develop the idea of a film on Napoleon well before the 2000s, but funding for the latter had been refused following the failure of Waterloo (1970).
Although Spielberg tried to revive this project in 2013, it was only seven years later, in 2020, that Ridley Scott took up the torch. It is this time supported by 20th Century Fox before being partly financed by Apple Studios.
