When is Father’s Day celebrated in Chile?
The official date on which the Father’s Day in Chile is June 19this as stipulated in Decree 1,110 of 1976, for the “high value that the family represents for the people of Chile”.
However, the commercial date on which this day is commemorated is the third Sunday of June, so this 2023, the Father’s Day will be on Sunday June 18.
It is worth mentioning that since 2020, these types of celebrations have been carried out under strict sanitary measures imposed by the authorities due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but this year there will be more freedoms and spaces to honor parents.
Where did Father’s Day originate?
The commemoration of Father’s Day was born in the United States. In 1909, during a Mother’s Day, the American citizen Sonora Smart Dodd he devised to commemorate his father, a veteran of the civil war of that country.
William Jackson Smart was a sergeant in the Union’s First Arkansas Light Artillery who participated in the United States Civil War. He was widowed when his wife, Ellen Victoria Cheek Smartgave birth to her sixth child, which caused her to take care of her entire family.
The Sonora initiative was supported in other cities and in 1924, President Calvin Coolidge, decreed it as official. However, it was not until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson enacted the official father’s day.
Currently, Father’s Day is commemorated in much of Western culture and America is the continent with the largest number of countries that celebrate it.
