How prices for popular car models in the Russian market have changed and which of them have risen in price most noticeably over the past year

The Russians are gradually starting to return to car dealerships. Thus, according to the analytical agency “AUTOSTAT”, sales of new cars in Russia in May increased by 2.6 times at once, up to 72 thousand units, compared to last year. Against the backdrop of such indicators, which are also due to the stabilization of the cost of cars in dealerships, Autonews.ru decided to compare prices for cars of brands popular with Russians now and in June 2022. In this case, we will talk regarding both official price lists from manufacturers and dealer prices, which are usually significantly higher.

One of the main novelties of this year – Lada Vesta NG – arrived in Russian dealerships. You can buy a car in a sedan, station wagon, as well as in Cross versions. The recommended cost of the car is at least 1,239,900 rubles. In a large dealer company in the north-west of Moscow, we were offered to buy a Lada Vesta sedan in the basic version with a 90-horsepower engine and mechanics already more expensive – for 1,299,000 rubles.

A year ago, dealers still had stocks of pre-styling Vesta. So, in June, domestic dealers were able to sell 1631 such cars (data from the Association of European Businesses). On the official website, the prices for the car then started from 1,121,900 rubles. For that kind of money, customers were promised a sedan in the basic Classic configuration with a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 106 hp. and a five-speed manual gearbox. However, in reality, in car dealerships, such a Lada Vesta cost more – an average of 1,300,000 rubles.

In June last year, AvtoVAZ launched sales of a “simplified” version of the most popular car in Russia, Lada Granta. A car without ABS and airbags then cost at least 658,300 rubles. Later, AvtoVAZ was able to return some options to this car, such as airbags and air conditioning.
Now the anti-crisis Granta in a sedan on the official website costs 692,300 rubles. The car is offered with a 1.6-liter petrol engine with 90 hp, which works in conjunction with a manual transmission. For a sedan with air conditioning, you will have to pay even more – 789,900 rubles. For the same money, we managed to find these cars in a car dealership in the south of the capital.
UAZ “Patriot”

At the moment, official prices for the popular Russian SUV UAZ “Patriot” start at 1,550,000 rubles. So much you have to pay for the version of the car with a manual transmission. In the very first dealer center where we turned, the cost of the Patriot was 1,650,000 rubles. In June last year, in the same trading company, the car cost 1,400,000 rubles. At the same time, the minimum cost of the car on the official website was 1,395,000 rubles.
As for the two-pedal version of the UAZ “Patriot”, it generally disappeared from the official website. You can still find such cars at dealers, but the prices for a car are approaching 2,500,000 rubles.
The SUV UAZ “Patriot” is equipped with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 150 hp. and 235 Nm of torque. For the car, a plug-in all-wheel drive, a transfer case and a center differential lock are provided.

One of the most popular Chinese crossovers in Russia at the moment is the Geely Coolray. For our market, this model is assembled at the Belgi plant in Belarus. You can buy a car with a non-alternative 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 150 hp. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There is no manual transmission for the car, even in the basic version. Acceleration to hundreds of the car takes 8.5 seconds.
Car prices on the official website start at 2,299,990 rubles. However, when buying for cash, the automaker offers all customers the so-called special benefit per car in the amount of 135,000 rubles. Thus, when buying for cash Geely Coolray in the basic version will cost 2,164,990 rubles. When applying for a loan and putting an old car into a trade-in, a car can be bought for 1,929,990 rubles.
A year ago, a Chinese crossover with all the discounts cost 1,879,990 rubles. Moreover, at dealers it was sometimes possible to find a car even cheaper than the recommended retail price (RRP). For example, in one of the car dealerships in the east of Moscow in June 2022, they offered to purchase a Geely Coolray for 1,800,000 rubles.

The most affordable crossover of the Chinese company Chery at the moment is the Tiggo 4 Pro. If you believe the official website, then you can buy this car in Russia for 2,099,900 rubles. Also, a direct discount from the automaker in the amount of 100,000 rubles applies to the car. Thus, buying a car will cost customers 1,999,900 rubles. However, finding a car from dealers is cheaper than 2,000,000 rubles. it will be very difficult. In May last year, a pre-styling version of the crossover without the Pro prefix in the title was presented on the domestic market. The price tag for such a car started from 1,139,900 rubles. (including all discounts). At dealers, in turn, the minimum prices for a crossover were approaching 2,000,000 rubles.
The front-wheel drive crossover Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 113 hp, which works in conjunction with a manual transmission or CVT. In older trim levels, the car is equipped with a supercharged engine of the same volume, which develops 147 hp. The maximum speed is 175 km/h.
Hyundai Tucson
The once popular Solaris and Creta are now no longer found in Russian dealerships. Against this background, the best-selling car of the Korean Hyundai (at least, so the showroom employees say) was the Tucson crossover, which can still be found in large trading companies. Recommended prices for this car start at 2,749,000 rubles. However, we failed to find a Hyundai Tucson at Moscow dealers for that kind of money. The fact is that in most showrooms in Moscow there are crossovers only in higher trim levels. For example, a front-wheel drive car with a 2-liter gasoline engine with 150 hp. and “automatic” in the top version in one of the trading companies we were offered to buy for 4,050,000 rubles.
Exactly a year ago, the starting price of the Hyundai Tucson on the official website was also at least 2,749,000 rubles. In reality, in the first month of the summer of 2022, a car with a 150-horsepower 2-liter gasoline aspirator and an “automatic” might not be bought from dealers for less than 2,900,000 rubles.

Among the Kia models that still remain with dealers, according to sellers, Kia Sportage crossovers are in the greatest demand. The automaker himself set a minimum cost of 2,849,900 rubles for this model. According to the official website, for this money you can buy a 2022 front-wheel drive crossover in the basic Classic version with a 2-liter engine and a manual transmission. However, we might not find such a car in the capital’s car dealerships. But dealers still have all-wheel drive Sportage in the Prestige configuration with a 2-liter gasoline engine with 150 hp. For this car, the seller asks for 4,215,000 rubles. On the Russian website of Kia, such a car is estimated at 3,414,000 rubles.
Last summer in Moscow, dealers were selling cars of the past generation. The official prices for the Kia Sportage then started at 2,749,900 rubles. However, in car dealerships they asked much more for a car – 3,000,000 rubles. An all-wheel drive crossover in older versions cost 3.5-3.6 million rubles in trading companies.

Also, dealers still have Mazda CX-5 crossovers officially delivered to Russia from old batches. For example, for a car manufactured in 2022 with four-cylinder petrol engines of 2 and 2.5 liters and 150 hp. and 180 hp respectively, in a car dealership in the north of Moscow, they asked for 3,700,000 million rubles. The same trading company also presents restyled versions of the CX-5, which the seller brings into the country privately. A car for parallel imports with the same 2-liter engine, but in a richer configuration, now costs 4,200,000 million rubles.
A year ago, in the same Mazda CX-5 dealership, managers offered to purchase for 3,095,000 rubles. As for the official prices, they have long disappeared from the Mazda website in Russia.

Despite the fact that Skoda has suspended its activities in Russia, official cars of the Czech brand are still available from domestic dealers. For example, in the capital’s car dealerships, we managed to find Karoq crossovers in different versions and trim levels. For example, a front-wheel drive car with a 1.4-liter 150-horsepower supercharged “four”, which works in tandem with an eight-speed “automatic”, costs 3,500,000 rubles in a showroom in the west of Moscow. On the official website of the company, such a machine costs 3,129,000 rubles. A year ago, the cost of Skoda Karoq was 2,719,000 rubles.
