With 840,000 fans on the online platform TikTok, coupler Daniel Burghart is one of the most successful Austrians online.
A world star on the internet – that’s Daniel Burghart without a doubt. With 840,000 “followers” and more than 21 million “likes” on the video platform TikTok, the 21-year-old Koppler is the most successful Salzburger on the net. Only very few in Austria can keep up.
Over the past nine months, Burghart has primarily won over his hundreds of thousands of fans with funny short videos from the Koppler soccer field, in which he shows himself in a wide variety of funny roles and situations several times a week. He not only posts the posts on TikTok, but also with increasing success on Instagram (76,000 followers) and YouTube (26,000 subscribers).
He does not want to explain this success with his short stature alone. “It’s more the combination of self-mockery and football skills that people like. How often do you see a little boy playing football like that,” says Burghart, who coaches the reserve team at USV Koppl in his free time.
Despite his many followers, he does not earn money with his videos. That is also the reason why the HAK graduate also works as an accountant for 20 hours. With the exception of a few isolated collaborations, such as with Akzente Salzburg before the state elections, TikTok did not bring him any lucrative offers. For the near future he has therefore decided to use the potential and land deals.
He is aware of the risk that the hype surrounding him might die down as quickly as it arose. “Again and once more someone is celebrated and then goes down once more. Of course I have this fear too,” says Daniel Burghart during the FN interview in his favorite “Camp 24” restaurant in Koppl.
Lots of very young fans
The Tiktok statistics tell him that over 70 percent of his fans are between 18 and 24 years old. But he has also become a celebrity among the younger target group. “When I’m out and regarding in the city, I notice that a lot of middle school-aged kids and below are watching my videos. When I’m at youth soccer games, almost everyone knows me.” The many young fans are also the reason why he uploads his videos between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. “Many younger people have to put their cell phones away at 8 p.m. Before that, they watch my videos.”
