This training lecture was a place to share information on effective treatment and management of Parkinson’s disease patients in the clinical field of Korean medicine through lectures on the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease as well as practical evaluation and multifaceted treatment approaches. In particular, in the 5th training course this year, pharmacopuncture therapy, which has been proven to be effective in managing pain, muscle spasm, stiffness, posture abnormality, and gait disorder, was examined centering on cases, while demonstrations and practices were conducted, drawing great attention.
In his greeting, Chairman Park Seong-wook said, “Korea is regarding to enter a super-aged society due to rapid population aging, and the incidence of degenerative diseases is increasing and the social burden is increasing.” As it is a place to nurture oriental medicine experts who can treat patients through the sharing of oriental medicine management methods, I hope that there will be a lot of interest and participation in the future.”

In his presentation, Chairman Park Seong-wook said, “Gradual decline in memory or dopamine secretion is a normal aging phenomenon, but if it rapidly declines from a certain point, it should be regarded as a degenerative brain disease.” It is caused by a complex action of environmental causes, and depending on the area where abnormal protein accumulation and resulting neuronal damage, neuroinflammation, and synaptic damage occurred, diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, abnormal movement disease, and frontotemporal dementia develop. ”he explained.
In particular, President Park said, “In the treatment of degenerative brain diseases, differential diagnosis is the most important, because the establishment of a treatment and management plan must be different as the prognosis varies depending on the type of disease. In addition, recently, researches aimed at managing the prodromal symptoms of degenerative brain diseases are being actively conducted,” he said. “There is no fundamental treatment for Parkinson’s disease yet, so suppression of disease progression and symptom management are becoming the focus of treatment. Oriental medicine management is possible to treat and manage Parkinson’s disease from the early stage to the end stage, so it plays a large role in improving the quality of life of patients.
In addition, Lee Hyeong-min, a specialist in oriental internal medicine, has four major symptoms of Parkinson’s disease: tremor at rest △stiffness △agitation △postural imbalance and gait disturbance, as well as prodromal symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as change in sense of smell, constipation, sleep disorder, autonomic dysfunction and anxiety. , and explained in detail non-motor symptoms such as pain and restless legs syndrome.
He said, “It is necessary to diagnose Parkinson’s disease early by identifying prodromal symptoms before the four major motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, and it is necessary to distinguish between similar symptoms and clearly identify the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.” When managing sick patients, it is important to manage not only major motor symptoms but also non-motor symptoms that reduce quality of life.”
In addition, Professor Lim Jeong-tae said, “Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative brain disease that occurs related to aging. There is no fundamental treatment, and drug therapy, exercise, and surgery are performed as symptomatic treatment to alleviate symptoms, but standard treatment has limitations. “Therefore, oriental medicine management of Parkinson’s disease is progressing with the goal of preventing the progression of the disease, managing motor symptoms, and reducing non-motor symptoms and complications to improve the quality of life of patients,” he said.
Prof. Lim went on to △inhibit the progression of Parkinson’s disease through acupuncture △prevent the occurrence of Parkinson’s disease and reduce the risk of death (focused on irritable bowel syndrome and depression) △effect of acupuncture and venom acupuncture combination therapy for idiopathic Parkinson’s disease △acupuncture treatment Through the research results published so far on the treatment of Parkinson’s disease oriental medicine, such as the effect of gait disorder, the effectiveness and safety of oriental medicine management were suggested.
“Looking at the results of studies so far, it can be confirmed that the combination of acupuncture treatment slows down the progression of Parkinson’s disease, and that the combination of bee venom and acupuncture treatment not only improves motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, but also maintains the therapeutic effect for a certain period of time following treatment. “In addition, oriental medicine management of various non-motor symptoms that decrease the quality of life of Parkinson’s disease patients and caregivers was also effective in reducing complications such as infections, falls, and strokes as well as improving the quality of life,” he said.
Through the presentation, Director Shim So-ra explained the contents that Parkinson’s disease patients and their families were curious regarding through counseling, delivered know-how to manage Parkinson’s disease patients in actual clinical practice, and provided special treatment for patients with rare and intractable diseases and medical expense support, elderly people.
