Walter comments on first-leg excitement
In the relegation, HSV has its back to the wall. In the second leg, coach Tim Walter’s team must pull off a miracle once morest VfB Stuttgart in order to make the long-awaited return to the Bundesliga.
The Hamburger SV is following the 0-3 debacle in the first leg of the relegation once morest VfB Stuttgart with one’s back to the wall. Should Tim Walter’s team not pull off the miracle, the former Bundesliga dino would once more have missed out on promotion to the German top flight and had a disappointing season.
HSV coach Tim Walter has to do without Jonas David (ill), and the Spaniard Javi Montero comes into play for the central defender. VfB trusts the victorious starting eleven from the first leg.
Walter explains first-leg excitement
The coach caused a great stir following the first leg when he gathered his team in a large circle and gave a speech. As the team listened to their coach, a cameraman snuck up to capture the scene, but not with Walter shooing the TV man away with a wild stare and pointing finger.
“The cameraman did his job, but when I talk to my family, I don’t go when he talks to his family either,” said the 47-year-old Sat.1 his harsh reaction before the second leg.
“You have to keep your composure, and he didn’t quite understand that. I know he just wants to do his job and I’m sorry regarding that. But I don’t go into his house and then be rebellious. So that was only due to the situation.”
Even if not much speaks for HSV, Walter did not lose faith in the great miracle before the second leg on Monday once morest the Bundesliga third bottom.
“We’ve already shown our comeback quality a few times,” said the coach before the showdown: “It’s a gene for us. The fact that we kept getting up is a testament to the good character of the boys.”
For example, the Rothosen were 3-0 down at half-time once morest second division champions 1. FC Heidenheim, but in the end they took a point with a 3-3 win.
Hamburg is ready for the miracle
In order to finally make the return to the Bundesliga, the team must focus 100 percent on performance. “We always try to invest everything and play full throttle, but you never know what’s going on in the minds of the players. But as a team we need everyone, it’s only possible as a team, only then can we survive,” Walter continued, almost evoking a joint effort by players and fans.
However, it will be a difficult task for HSV, because Walter sees Stuttgart as one of the favorites: “There is a discrepancy in the market values of the teams because we have been playing in the second division for five years. We are now a normal second division team.”
However, Stuttgart has not built up the self-confidence in the current season not to be warned regarding the red trousers. The good starting position following the convincing 3-0 in the first leg is “just a milestone,” said coach Sebastian Hoeneß before the “final” in Hamburg on Monday: “The pressure is still there because we have to confirm it in the second game.”
Stuttgart goes into the final with a warning
Of course, the comfortable victory in the first leg should avert the fourth relegation in the club’s history following 1975, 2016 and 2019. However, it would be “fatal”, warned Hoeneß, “if we now deduce that the second leg will be like the first leg. We need a big stand-by.”
Hoeneß expects his team to be “sharp, concentrated and focused just like in the first game”, precisely because HSV will “throw everything in”. The 41-year-old has to do without Fabian Bredlow once more. The goalkeeper was “not at 100 percent” following an inner ligament strain, said Hoeneß, “then it’s impossible that you can play a game like Monday”.
