Tragic Drowning at Georges-Hermant Swimming Pool: Investigation and Updates

A little girl drowned on Monday followingnoon during a school outing to the Georges-Hermant swimming pool in Paris (19th arrondissement). According to our information, this student, enrolled in a CP class at the Jean-Jaurès elementary school, was found unconscious at the bottom of the basin. A lifeguard immediately dove in to rescue the child, who was in cardiorespiratory arrest.

After a first resuscitation, the little girl was transported by the firefighters with her prognosis engaged to the hospital, where she was admitted to intensive care. An investigation into the causes of injuries has been opened, and entrusted to the police station of the 19th arrondissement, indicates the Paris prosecutor’s office. According to the first statements, the victim would have remained submerged between 30 and 60 seconds. “We very much hope that this little girl will come out of it,” reacted François Dagnaud, the mayor of the 19th arrondissement, contacted by us.

Thirty students from the three split CP classes at this school, classified as a priority education network (REP), took part in this outing. “The supervision rate was largely respected. The children were accompanied by the three class teachers, two professors from the City of Paris (PVP), two municipal educators and two lifeguards from the pool manager,” said François Dagnaud.

A psychological unit has been set up to support students who witnessed the accident. The Georges Hermant swimming pool announced on its instagram account that its doors will remain exceptionally closed on Tuesday.
