The first Corpus Christi took place in Liège in 1246 and since then it has been celebrated all over the world. From 3 to 11 June, 25 events and celebrations will be offered in the Liège region: exhibitions, concerts, eucharists, storytelling walks by torchlight, puppet theatre, prayers.

The Bishop of Liège, Jean-Pierre Delville, will perform the Eucharist in the Saint-Martin basilica. – SP

“This is one of the oldest festivals in Liège, explains Mgr Jean-Pierre Delville, head of the bishopric of Liège for 10 years. Extended worldwide from 1264, it is a holiday in many countries. It is celebrated in all the dioceses of the world under the name of Feast of the Blessed Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ or Corpus Domini. It gives rise to magnificent processions. Pope Francis himself leads the procession in Rome. »

With, as a highlight this Thursday, June 8, the solemn Eucharist at 7 p.m. in the Saint-Martin basilica, cradle of Corpus Christi, followed from 8:15 p.m. by the procession of the peoples of the world towards the Cathedral to the sound hunting horns.

She will take breaks at the Sainte-Croix collegiate church, Place Saint-Lambert, the Opera, the Virgin of Del’Cour in Vinâve d’île. Upon arrival at St. Paul’s Cathedral there will be a big NightFever party with 1,000 candles for peace.

On the weekend of Saturday June 10 and Sunday June 11, it will also be celebrated during all Sunday masses, in all the churches of the diocese, with also a procession in different places.
