New York: Yoga is something that brings awareness and health to both mind and body. Yoga is now very popular all over the world. Can you believe that there are ‘fitness freaks’ who maintain their health through yoga not only among humans but also among elephants? Yes, the incident is true.

You can see elephants practicing yoga at the Houston Zoo in the US. There are 12 elephants in the zoo. All of them regularly participate in yoga sessions every day. Yoga practice is supervised by special staff.

Among them, Tess, an elephant, can lift its huge body up by stepping on the ground with only its front legs. Tess also has some other yoga numbers up her sleeve. Tess, 40 years old and weighing 2,950 kg, is the most flexible of the elephants here, according to the zoo manager.

Each yoga session lasts from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Older elephants do two sessions a day. Meanwhile, the elephants are regularly subjected to medical examinations.

Elephants are not forced to do yoga. But the elephants who cooperate with the trainers are kept happy with fruits and bread etc. One of the main yoga exercises is teaching to balance on two legs.

In addition to yoga, the Houston Zoo also has other training methods for the elephants, including enabling them to understand human commands. Officials say that regular exercise not only improves the body but also the mind of the elephants.
